Coffee and Espresso

Do you roast your own coffee?
Yes. We roast all of our coffee fresh on site.

Where do you get your beans?
We source all of our beans from established quality importers. All of our beans are at Specialty grade, or much higher.
A few of our coffees we source direct from the farm, or purchase from Auction lots. As we grow, our ability to source direct will grow as well.

Why Single Origin?
We believe the best way to taste the varietal flavors of the coffee is to source coffee from one region or micro-region, a single farm or estate, or even a particular lot from that farm or estate. There are varietal flavors that will differ from country to country, farm to farm, and even lot to lot. In order to enjoy what each particular farm has worked so hard to cultivate, we do the best we can to showcase those flavors in the cup.

What do you roast on?
We use the FreshRoast Systems roaster. This is the perfect combination of art and science. The FreshRoaster allows us to profile our roasts with unrivaled precision and allow the varietal flavors, both subtle and intense, to be highlighted in the roast.

After roasting on a more traditional roaster for two years, I found the control and repeatability of the roast to be unparalleled. Once you remove your ego, you examine the tool, and it is a phenomenal tool. In addition, the FreshRoaster is ventless and emits nothing more than warm air mingled with coffee goodness. No pollution. A huge step forward in roasting.

Do you blend your espresso?
Yes. Most of our espresso is blended. We do offer special runs of Single Origin Espresso, and hope to do more of that in the future.

Why don't you serve traditional drip coffee?
At caffe d'bolla, all of our drinks are made fresh by the cup. Standard bulk drip coffee does not meet our standards of quality and freshness.

What do you have for coffee?
We can make you a fantastic Americano. It is a double shot of fresh ground espresso brewed directly into filtered water. It has a little more body and flavor than traditional coffee.

If you want to try something exceptional, we have siphon brewed coffee.

What is siphon brewed coffee?
We brew our Single Origin coffee fresh, by the cup, on the siphon brewer. The coffee siphon, or vac pot, is the best brewing method for extracting the dynamic flavors in coffee. It produces a very clean cup, and we are confident it will change your perception of coffee.

Why do all the espresso drinks at caffe d'bolla taste better than what we usually have?
The simple answer is "We care more". There are only a handful of shops throughout North America that do what we do. At caffe d'bolla, every drink is ground fresh and made by the cup. This critical step, which is often ignored, preserves the flavors and essence of the espresso until the very last moment, and it all translates to the cup. Other factors include proper dosing, leveling, tamp pressure, and extraction.... not to mention proper brew temperature for different espresso as well as adjusting the grind to maintain proper flow and extraction. Tasting coffee, tasting espresso, learning from my coffee brethren, and then tasting some more. It all comes to life in the cup.

Why is there no bitterness in your coffee and espresso?
We roast everything to bring out the flavors in the bean rather than cover them up. All of our coffee and espresso is on a strict rotation to preserve freshness so that you can enjoy the best the coffee has to offer.

Why no to go espresso?
Espresso is not a long term drink, because the greatest essence of the espresso resides in the crema, it is crucial to enjoy it quickly. The ceramic demitasse imparts no off flavors to the espresso, as the paper cup does, and the rounded shape of the cup yields better body for the shot.
